Cross Country Relay – Year 5 and 6
Cross Country Relay – Year 5 and 6 It was so nice to be able to run the 1.3 km course at Gangwarily Recreation Centre without it being a complete mud bath! This event was a 3-runner relay race, where each competitor runs the course, tagging the next runner who waits excitedly in the change-over box. It encourages teamwork, perseverance and resilience as the children run independently, and have a team placing at the end of the event.
For me, it is about getting around the course without injuries, having fun, supporting each other and digging deep for the team. All children showed huge bravery and were an asset to the school, as they coped with some very competitive children from other schools and, for some, this was the first time running this challenging course. Our girls’ teams were rewarded with 12th and 31st out of 37 teams and the boys did an incredible job of motivating each other around the course on every lap as they were so close to each other in placing 7 th, 13th and 17th out of a field of 50 teams from other New Forest schools. Once again, I am very grateful to the parents who supported with transport and Ellie and Jake who agreed to take part at the last minute and start the event as Runner 1.
