Year 6 Open Afternoon Monday 27th November 2023
Local author, story teller and actor, Chris Connaughton, joined year six staff, pupils and parents for our open afternoon. The afternoon was linked to our current English poetry unit on The Highwayman.
He shared an extract from the poem and encouraged everyone to take part in activities to support performance. Following this, pupils and adults were set the challenge of their own poetry performance of a stanza from the poem. Some groups even volunteered to perform in front of everyone. Chris then shared other poems and techniques.
This was an important afternoon to celebrate and encourage a love of poetry and support our pupils in developing their fluency and performance skills when presenting to an audience.
